The threshold under which families receive subsidies for childcare is to be raised as part of plans for the early learning and school age childcare sector, announced by the Minister for Children.

Under the plans the lower income threshold will be increased next year from €26,000 to €34,000, with the upper income threshold rising from €60,000 to €68,000.

The 'Shaping the Future: Early Years Action Plan' was published by Minister Norma Foley in Dublin this morning.

The income limits for the National Childcare Scheme have been unchanged since 2019, and the new threshold changes will benefit around 47,000 families.

The increased income limits are expected to come into effect next September.
