Several Fianna Fáil TDs have expressed anger that their names were included on a putative list of rebels plotting a no confidence motion in party leader Micheál Martin.
The contributions during a Fianna Fáil parliamentary party meeting were described as emotional and dramatic.
Those who spoke on the issue included James O'Connor, Pádraig O’Sullivan, Erin McGreehan, Peter Chap Cleere and Seán Ó Fearghaíl.
Mr Ó Fearghaíl told the meeting that he was taken aback at being labelled as part of the old guard on the list, given that he is almost the same age as Micheál Martin.
The party met in Leinster House this evening amid the ongoing fallout from its poor showing in the presidential election.
MEP Barry Cowen flew home from Brussels to attend the meeting.
The meeting heard calls for the swift publication of a review of the party’s presidential election campaign, with several TDs pushing for this to happen last week.
However, RTÉ News understands that the Taoiseach still has not made his contribution to this key review.
Mr Martin was not present at tonight's meeting as he is attending COP30 in Brazil.
Mary Kennedy was considered as possible FF candidate
Former high profile RTÉ presenter Mary Kennedy was suggested as a possible Fianna Fáil presidential candidate earlier this year.
A number of TDs put her name forward to Mr Martin prior to declarations of interest from Billy Kelleher and Jim Gavin.
One TD who brought the former Nationwide presenter's name to the Fianna Fáil leader feels that she would have performed well in the election.
They believe Ms Kennedy was potentially a strong candidate but expressed disappointment that her name now has become public.
"God only knows who has broken confidence in this ... Mary could have done very well," they said.
