Independent Ireland Leader Michael Collins wants the Dáil to begin its proceedings this afternoon with a minute's silence in memory of Charlie Kirk.
In his letter to the Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Collins described Mr Kirk’s killing as "a stark reminder of the dangers of violence in political life".
"Whatever one’s views, there can be no place for intimidation or violence in public discourse," Deputy Collins stated.
"Political differences must always be settled through words, never through bloodshed."
The West Cork TD believes it is important that the Dáil mark the occasion by remembering not only Charlie Kirk, but all victims of gun violence and innocent victims of violence across the world.
"Each act of violence leaves behind a trail of grief and loss. By standing together in silence, we affirm our shared commitment to peace, respect, and democratic debate," he said.
