Taoiseach Micheál Martin has been accused of "bottling it" in the Oval Office by not adequately articulating the views of the Irish people around Gaza.
The Social Democrats has called on Mr Martin to taking a stronger position on the conflict when he meets EU leaders this week - by pushing for the recognition of Palestinian statehood at the suspension of the EU-Israel trade agreement.
The party's spokesperson on foreign affairs, Sinéad Gibney, said: "Up until the election, we had strong words from the Irish Government relation to Palestine.
"We always as a party have said that we needed more action and we haven’t seen that action.
"But right now, we don’t even have either."
"Unfortunately, I think the Taoiseach bottled it in the Oval Office when he had the opportunity to articulate the feelings and sentiments of the Irish people in relation to what is happening in Gaza and the atrocities that are happening there.
"He chose not to do that, and this is his opportunity when he travels to Europe this week to essentially push for greater EU coordination and commitment to deal with this today."
Deputy Gibney said Mr Martin must push for stronger alignment at EU level in relation to Gaza - similar to its response to the war in Ukraine.
"The EU is based on principles of human rights and solidarity and unfortunately that is not being shown and displayed in relation to Israel’s actions," she said.
The Social Democrats is bringing a motion calling for a plebiscite on the Triple Lock.
"We believe this is something the Irish people want to protect and we believe it is absolutely fundamental to our neutrality," she said.
The party also said there is no time line for a decision on whether the Dublin Bay South TD Eoin Hayes should be readmitted to the parliamentary party.
