TDs have not agreed to the order of business proposed by the Government Chief Whip and a vote has been called.
Chief Whip Hildegard Naughten asked the House to agree to begin an hour earlier than usual.
Solidarity TD Mick Barry objected, saying the early start was to facilitate the Taoiseach's trip to Washington to met US President Joe Biden.
Mr Barry said that was ostensibly to celebrate 100 years of US relations - but he said the Taoiseach should not be celebrating the Presidency of a man "who is arming and financing a genocide against the Palestinian people".
Labour TD Duncan Smith also raised the report that Russian secret service had recruited an Oireachtas member as a spy and he asked how this would be dealt with.
Independent TD Mattie McGrath said the media, TDs and the people were driven "demented" by election speculation and he called on the Taoiseach to name the date.
"Let the dogs see the rabbit," he said, rather than playing games.
Taoiseach Simon Harris defended the move to begin Dáil business one hour earlier than usual, saying he could have asked somebody to deputise but he took his duties seriously.
