Taoiseach Simon Harris has spoken by phone to Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
According to a spokesperson for the Taoiseach, Mr Harris set out the Government's position on Gaza, including Ireland’s wish to see an immediate ceasefire and urgent and "unhindered access" for humanitarian aid.
Mr Harris also expressed deep concern about the potential for catastrophe in Rafah.

The Taoiseach expressed the view that peace and security for Israel and Palestine can only be built on a two-state solution.
He also outlined Ireland’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine.
Mr Harris "made clear Ireland’s abhorrence of Hamas" and the country's support for the "immediate and unconditional release of Israeli hostages".
Both leaders agreed to stay in touch.
Ireland is seeking to recognise Palestinian statehood towards the end of this month, in conjunction with other European countries such as Spain.
