The Dáil has passed a motion calling for unimpeded humanitarian access to meet the urgent needs of all civilians in Gaza.
The motion stressed that Israel's right to defend itself from attack must be in line with international law.
It also echoed the UN call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and expressed alarm at the rising death toll and displacement of citizens in Gaza.
The motion said that the taking of hostages, including children and the elderly, was unconscionable and called for their immediate and unconditional release.
It unreservedly condemned the attack by Hamas in Israel on Sunday 7 October.
The motion was passed by 121 votes to 14, but its wording was not unanimously agreed.
Sinn Féin had sought to amend the text adding that the Dáil unreservedly condemns Israel's brutal assault on Gaza which has resulted in more than 3,000 deaths.
Other parties and independent groups had also tabled amendments.
