The Government has decided to hold two referendums on the issue of gender equality, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said.

However the wordings for both still have to be finalised.

Speaking after Cabinet today, Mr Varadkar said he was committed to holding them "sooner rather than later" and certainly in the "lifetime of the Government".

The votes are scheduled for November and Mr Varadkar said he would meet the Electoral Commission CEO Art O'Leary in "the coming weeks".

The possibility of multiple questions to change the Constitution has been under consideration for some time.
