More than 200 US legislators will gather in the Dáil chamber this afternoon, alongside Irish politicians, for a meeting of the Ireland-United States Parliamentary Friendship group.

Members of the US Senate and House of Representatives will be among those in attendance, as well as other legislators from across the United States.

It is expected that matters such as economic relations between Ireland and the US will be discussed, with Minister for Finance Michael McGrath also due to address the delegation.

Today's visit has been organised to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

The United States' ongoing support of the peace process will be a focus of the event.

Among those in attendance will be Congressman Brendan Boyle.

Altogether, four US senators and 12 Members of the US House of Representatives will be in the Dáil.

Permission to hold today's meeting inside the chamber was granted by Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl, following a request by Senator Mark Daly, the Oireachtas's liaison to the US State Legislators and Fianna Fáil TD Paul McAuliffe, convenor of the Oireachtas United States Parliamentary Friendship group.

At a separate event today, members of the delegation will meet with Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Yesterday, members of the American-Irish State Legislators Caucus travelled to Belfast where they met with representatives of Northern Ireland's five main political parties at Stormont.

The delegation also met with community leaders at the peace walls.

A meeting with industry groups also took place.
