Daa has confirmed it is interested in buying the so-called 'McEvaddy lands' adjacent to the airport, but will not pay a "crazy price".

CEO of the company Kenny Jacobs told the Oireachtas Transport committee they will take a look at the 261-acre site and determine if they will make an offer.

However, he said they will only pay an "appropriate price".

Mr Jacobs said he thinks the company will be the only bidder for the site. The lands have been offered for sale with a price tag of €200 million.

The lands have been suggested as a potential site for a third airport terminal. However, Mr Jacobs said if the airport is to progress with a proposal for a third terminal it will be beside the existing terminals.

6,200 car parking spaces

Daa said that once regulatory approval is granted for a new car park at Dublin Airport, it will have 6,200 spaces open within a week.

It has agreed a purchase price for the car park and they are awaiting approval from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Mr Jacobs told the Transport committee that concerns about a shortage of parking have been "overblown" in the media.

He said: "The travelling public do not need to be as anxious about parking as the media has suggested they are."

He said there are still plenty of spaces available this summer and while no airport can say every passenger will get parking, there is still availability.

The daa asked the owners of the car park if they could lease the facility while the CPCC goes through the approval process, but they declined.
