A new opinion poll suggests an increase in support for Sinn Féin while backing for Fine Gael has dropped.

The Red C/Business Post poll puts Sinn Féin at 33% up 2% and Fine Gael at 21%, down 3% versus the same poll one month previously.

The online surveyed which involved 1,004 adults took place between Friday 20 January and Wednesday 25 January.

During this period, Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe was embroiled in the controversy over his electoral expenses.

The survey also reflects the changeover in Government since Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar took over as Taoiseach.

Fianna Fáil remain at 15% and support for independents is also unchanged at 11%.

The poll suggests the Social Democrats are on 6%, up 2% while the Green Party is at 4%, down 1%.

Labour is unchanged at 4%, People Before Profit Solidarity is also unchanged at 3% while Aontú remains at 2%.

The margin of error is plus or minus 3%.
