Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has said the Government decision to reopen an Irish embassy in Iran next year is currently under review.

He told the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meeting that this country's concerns about events in Iran, including the Islamic Republic's activities on various issues, have been made crystal clear internationally.

This has happened at the UN security council and during diplomatic relations with Iran and at EU level, he said.

However, Minister Coveney also emphasised the value of diplomatic channels.

He said such relations and channels were extremely important and the Government was proceeding with caution on the issue.
