A ban on evictions from rental properties this winter is back on the Government agenda and it will be discussed by the three coalition party leaders on Monday night.
There is an expectation in Government this evening that a "time limited and conditional" ban is now likely to be introduced.
It follows advice from the Attorney General which was sought by Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien.
There is not a firm view yet on when any ban might be introduced, although some have suggested that it could run in conjunction with the moratorium on electricity disconnections.
That is set to be in place from the beginning of December to the end of February.
Earlier this month, a group of Fianna Fáil TDs called for a temporary evictions ban following a concerning rise in the number of notices to quit issued to tenants in recent weeks.
This week, the Tánaiste said such a temporary ban would result in fewer people losing their homes this winter.
However, he warned that it could also accelerate the number of landlords leaving the rental market leading to higher levels of homelessness next year.
