Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and her husband Paul are expecting their second child, in December.

Last year the Meath East TD became the first ever Cabinet minister to take maternity leave.

She agreed a pairing, or voting arrangement, with Social Democrats TD Holly Cairns for the duration of her maternity leave.

During her absence, Minister Heather Humphreys took over her justice portfolio.

This evening, Ms McEntee posted a photo of her son wearing a t-shirt saying "I'm going to be a big brother", with the caption "So Michael has some news to share".

It is understood that Ms McEntee intends to take maternity leave later this year.
