Sinn Féin has called on Oireachtas members who were reportedly hosted at a gambling industry hospitality tent at the Punchestown Festival to address the issue.
The Irish Daily Mail reported that a number of Government TDs and senators were hosted by the Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) at a corporate hospitality event at the Co Kildare racecourse on 28 April.
"We know the devastating impact and consequences of gambling addition on individuals and families throughout the State," Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile told the Seanad.
"In terms of protecting the integrity of this House - as we prepared to debate very important and very necessary gambling legislation - a policy of no comment is no longer sustainable and no longer acceptable," he said.
"So I think it is important that the space is created for colleagues who are referenced in the media to address the very legitimate and the very understandable concerns that are out there."
