President Michael D Higgins has led tributes to Irish diplomat Jim Kelly, who has died suddenly.
Mr Kelly served as Ireland's Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
In a statement President Higgins paid tribute to Mr Kelly, saying that he "served with distinction in several missions, as Ambassador to Canada, at Ireland's Permanent Representation to the EU, at Ireland’s Embassy in Copenhagen, and in variety of roles in Dublin".
He also said that Mr Kelly was a man of "great kindness and integrity epitomising the finest values of public service".
The Minister for Foreign Affairs said that Mr Kelly was an "outstanding diplomat, a great public servant and a kind and generous human being".
Simon Coveney said Mr Kelly was a "vital leader" who was central to the UN's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Mr Kelly is survived by his wife Anne and his two daughters.
