Fianna Fáil TD James O'Connor said there has been a successful resolution to his dispute with the party following the publication of the National Development Plan (NDP).

The Cork East TD met with the Taoiseach, the Transport Minister and the Public Expenditure Minister in Government Buildings this evening.

He said afterwards he is "thrilled" that the Government will assist efforts to deliver road projects in his constituency.

It comes after Mr O'Connor said this week that he was considering resigning from the party, unless he got a commitment from the Government on a road project.

The Dáil's youngest TD was angered by the failure to include a bypass for Castlemartyr and Killeagh in the NDP.

Mr O'Connor wanted a firm, unambiguous commitment from the Government that the road upgrade would proceed.

The €54m project was referenced by the Taoiseach and Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath at the launch of the NDP in Cork on Monday.

However, it was not included in the published document.

If he were to resign, it would reduce the Government's numbers to 81, while the combined opposition numbers would then stand at 78.
