Fine Gael councillor James Geoghegan was the only candidate nominated by party members in the Dublin Bay South constituency by today's deadline for candidates for the upcoming by-election.
His nomination must be put before meetings of Fine Gael's Executive Council and a Dublin Bay South constituency meeting for ratification later this week.
Former TD Kate O'Connell had already confirmed she would not put her name forward.
