Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has given birth to a baby boy, a spokesperson for the minister has confirmed.
Ms McEntee becomes the first Cabinet member in the history of the State to give birth and take maternity leave while in office.
The baby was delivered in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.
Ms McEntee and her husband Paul Hickey first announced the pregnancy in early December, tweeting that the baby was due in May.
The Meath East TD only began her maternity leave on Tuesday.
