Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney is expected to brief his Cabinet colleagues on an update on Brexit preparations this morning.

Despite Britain being granted an extension until 31 January, Ireland is continuing to prepare for the UK's exit and for the possibility of a no-deal scenario.

While the Government has scaled back its advertising advising the public to prepare for the effect of Brexit, Mr Coveney will appraise the Cabinet on the contingency work that is happening behind the scenes.

He will bring a memo to Cabinet updating ministers on planning that is continuing in ports and airports.

Preparations by Irish State agencies will be needed even if Britain leaves under the deal that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson brought to the House of Commons.
