Taoiseach urged party members to be present for Dáil and Seanad votes

The Taoiseach has issued a rallying call to his colleagues telling them the party can win the next general, which he would like to call next May.

In a letter sent to Fine Gael TDs, Senators and MEPs, he said that opposition is far easier than government but it is not a fraction as rewarding.

Leo Varadkar told his parliamentary party that whether Fine Gael win or not will be determined by the performance of government and the unity of the party in the months ahead.

He also urged colleagues to make every effort to be present for Dáil and Seanad votes, saying a few votes were lost in the last term that should have been won.

In the two-page letter, the Taoiseach also set out his party's main priorities which include passing the budget, securing a Brexit deal, ensuring balanced regional development and getting a better deal for families.
