Fine Gael and Labour have selected their candidates for the Ireland South Constituency in the European elections in May.

Fine Gael has selected MEP's Deirdre Clune and Sean Kelly, and also Wicklow TD and Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture Andrew Doyle.

On being selected, Ms Clune said the most important task for Irish MEPs would be to shape the relationship the UK will have with Europe after Brexit.

She said Ireland's future lies at the heart of Europe and the country needs to elect representatives who are committed to that.

Mr Kelly said he was honoured to be selected.

He added that Ireland was now at a critical juncture with the EU with Brexit immenant and experienced heads were needed at the highest level to deal with it

Labour has selected Irish Congress of Trade Unions President Sheila Nunan to stand in the South Constituency.

Prior to taking her role up with ICTU, she was General Secretary of the INTO.
