Tributes have been paid to former Fianna Fáil TD Peter Kelly who has died aged 74.
He was first elected to Longford county and town councils in 1985 and served a number of terms before being elected to the Dáil for the Longford/Roscommon constituency in 2002.
He was re-elected in 2007 for the reformed Longford/Westmeath constituency.
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said Mr Kelly loved being a TD.
"He was a proud Longford man and a man of great decency, he was a 'people's person'.
"Peter had a great knowledge of business and a huge sense of community. He was tenacious worker for the people of his constituency", Mr Martin said.
Councillor Joe Flaherty, who will contest the next general election for Fianna Fáil in Longford/Westmeath, said Mr Kelly committed himself to making life better for so many families.
