The Chair of the Oireachtas Women's Caucus has said the group is intending to move legislation in the Dáil next year to set gender quotas for local elections.

Green Party TD Catherine Martin was speaking following a meeting of current and former women members of the Oireachtas at Leinster House today.

She said the group also wanted to bring a motion before the Seanad to shine a spotlight on the pension gap, which she said was causing massive inequality for thousands of women in Ireland.

Ms Martin said the group was hoping to host an international conference of women's parliamentary caucuses, of which there are about 86 around the world.

She said the group would seek funding for this.

Ms Martin said the Oireachtas Women's Caucus wanted to reach out to women's groups across Ireland.

She said the caucus was about delivering for women in Ireland and adopting a non-adversarial, cross-party approach.
