Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald has told the Dáil that the Religious Sisters of Charity have confirmed that they will have no involvement in the new company that will run the new maternity hospital.

The matter was raised during Leader's Questions by Social Democrat TD Róisín Shortall who raised concerns that the St Vincent's Healthcare Group was seeking that the terms of the Mulvey Report would still apply to the new hospital.

She also said the group was under audit by the HSE and raised concerns about the "cross-subsidization" of the public and private hospitals.

Ms Fitzgerald said a huge amount of work had been done to allow the hospital to go ahead on the site now.
