Last time around: In 2011, the Green Party failed to secure a seat in the Dáil, after taking 1.8% of the popular vote nationally.
Last local elections: The Greens secured 1.6% of the national vote, but this was partly down to running fewer candidates, and the party won 12 council seats, significantly up on the two it held before the elections.
The Greens are running candidates in all 40 constituencies, but the key measure of success will be whether party leader Eamon Ryan can build on his strong showing in the 2014 European Elections, when he narrowly missed out, and secure a seat in the new constituency of Dublin Bay South.
Leader Profile: Getting filmed and photographed while cycling must get tiresome. Despite that, Ryan, the man who was left to keep the Irish Green flag flying, is still whizzing around on two wheels and smiling at photocalls on his pushbike. Read the full profile here.
