A house on the North Carolina coast collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean waters on Monday amid high tides.
According to local media, four oceanfront homes in the town of Buxton have collapsed since 1 February creating a debris field which resulted in temporary beach closures. Local authorities said the homes were unoccupied at the time of collapse.
Reuters was able to verify the location with the design of the buildings that matched the file and satellite imagery of Buxton. The date was verified by original file metadata and media of the incident.
Local media reported that 19 homes have collapsed in Buxton since September 2025.
