The first-ever Barbie doll with Type 1 Diabetes has been unveiled by Mattel.
The mainline Barbie debuted alongside a one-of-a-kind doll made in the likeness of British model Lila Moss, who has Type 1 Diabetes.
The doll's accessories include insulin patches, a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump as a means to increase awareness of the condition and help young people with diabetes feel more confident.
To ensure accurate representation of the community, Barbie partnered with Type 1 Diabetes charities to design the medical equipment.
"It’s amazing that there’s now a new Type 1 Diabetes main-line Barbie doll that people can buy and feel reflected by, and children can play with and see themselves represented in such an iconic Barbie doll," said Moss, who is the daughter of supermodel Kate Moss.
The 'one-off' Lila Moss doll sports an all-black outfit with boots and a handbag.
The main-line Barbie with Type 1 Diabetes wears a blue polka dot top and matching skirt. Both the colour blue and the circle print are deliberate nods to the blue circle, the most widely used symbol for diabetes awareness.
