Watch: Sky diver merges jump with surf upon landing

Chilean wingsuit flyer Sebastian Alvarez combined two of his favourites hobbies - skydiving and surfing - to perform a world first skydive to surf jump above Abu Dhabi's Hudayriyat Island.

Mr Alvarez did the stunt on 19 December last year, but Red Bull released the footage, days ahead of the Surf Abu Dhabi facility hosting its first professional surfing competition, the Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic, on 27, 28, and 29 September.

The Longboard Classic will be the third stop on the World Surf League (WSL) 2024 Longboard Tour. Surf Abu Dhabi is also set to host a WSL Championship Tour event next year.

Mr Alvarez said he comes from a surfing family and had always wanted to combine his passion for sky diving and surfing together.

The Chilean soared up above the Emirati capital on a Bell 212 helicopter before jumping out at 3,657 metres.

Mr Alvarez released his parachute and glided down to land at Surf Abu Dhabi before riding a 2.3m artificial wave and fulfilling his dream.
