A small alligator snapping turtle has been rescued from a lake in Cumbria, in the northwest of England.

Capable of biting through bone and native to southern parts of the United States, the snapping turtle is recognisable thanks to their armour-like shells, which give them a dinosaur-like appearance.

The turtle was spotted by a dog walker and handed in to Wild Side Vets last Monday where staff gave it the nickname 'Fluffy'.

Fluffy is believed to have been abandoned by an exotic pet owner.

According to local media, the turtle will be rehoused at a specialist wildlife centre in Cornwall.
