A power outage in downtown Toronto left thousands without electricity yesterday evening, with a local power provider later blaming a raccoon's "contact with equipment" as the source of the blackout.
The outage lasted from 7.40pm to 10.30pm local time, and affected around 7,000 residents, power provider Toronto Hydro said via a statement on their official X account.
"Crews have determined that a raccoon made contact with our equipment at a downtown Toronto station," the statement said.
Toronto Hydro did not elaborate on the condition of the raccoon.
So far there have been no reports of injuries resulting from the blackout, although Toronto Fire Services said that they had responded to elevator rescue calls in several buildings.
