The annual USA fourth of July hot dog eating contest took place yesterday.
The reigning champion, Joey Chestnut, 39, from Indiana, protected his title and secured his 16th win by eating a record 62 franks in 10 minutes.
The hot dog conqueror failed to beat his own world record of 76 hotdogs, which he achieved in 2021. However, he said he has plans to push the boundaries in the future.
"Today things got in the way, but I'll be coming back," he told ESPN.
The second-place finisher, Geoff Esper, was far behind managing 49 hot dogs in the same amount of time.
In the women's competition, Miki Sudo from New York City, took home the title by eating 39.5 hot dogs in 10 minutes, securing her win for the ninth time.
She set the female world record in 2020 by eating 48.5 hot dogs in the competition.
The contest began in 1980, when the winner managed to eat nine hot dogs in ten minutes.
It has since come a long way, with Chestnut averaging nine hot dogs in less than a minute.
