An emotional performance of You'll Never Walk Alone may have featured in Saturday's grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest. But a day earlier, a holidaying Irish choir delighted onlookers in Italy with their own unique rendition of the Liverpool FC anthem.
Drogheda Male Voice Choir performed the iconic song on a carousel in the town of Montecatini during a four day-trip to Tuscany last week.
Musical Director, David Leddy, said: "It was completely impromptu. I spotted the carousel and half-joked to the lads that it would be great to get on!
"Sure enough, our tour guide spoke to the girl running the carousel and we all hopped on. I counted everyone in and away we went.
"People were coming out of shops, pedestrians walking by stopped to look. We didn't know we were going to get such a reaction. If we had planned it, it wouldn’t have happened as well.
Appropriately enough, You’ll Never Walk Alone began life as a show tune in the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical 'Carousel'.
It was a hit for Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963 and has since become a symbol for Liverpool FC around the world.
It featured in Saturday's Eurovision grand final, which the UK was hosting in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine.
