Released bodycam footage shows dog rescued from fire

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office in the US state of Colorado has released dramatic bodycam footage showing a police officer rescuing a dog from a burning car.

The footage shows Deputy Michael Gregorek arriving at an undisclosed location after responding to a report of a vehicle on fire late last month.

As he gets out of the car, a distressed man can be heard shouting that his dog was in the car.

He proceeds to break the windows of the car while the owner calls out to the dog named Hank.

Officer Gregorek was unable to see anything inside the vehicle because of thick smoke, but eventually, he spotted the dog in the back of the car.

The owner of the dog tried to lift it out but was unable to.

Officer Gregorek managed to lift the dog out and carry it away from the burning car.

As he sets it down, the dog appeared to be unharmed.
