A man in Florida has been accused of stealing not one, but two police vehicles; the second during a chase after he drove off in the first.

Police responding to a disturbance call at a motel on the 4000 block of State Road 520 yesterday were talking to a man when he ran away, jumped into a patrol car and took off.

Officers chased the man down Interstate 95 and performed a pit manoeuvre that sent the police cruiser crashing into the woods.

Police rushed to the vehicle, but the man managed to run away, and while officers were searching for him, he snuck out and entered a second police vehicle, driving away again.

Moments later, officers involved in the chase threw stop sticks in front of the stolen vehicle, which started smoking up and eventually stopped in the grass median.

Several officers ran to the vehicle and managed to detain the man, who was taken into custody.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office said last night charges are still being finalised.

Helicopter footage shows the chase sequence that ended with the man’s arrest.
