A bomb disposal team and members of the Icelandic Coast Guard detonated a Second World War bomb at sea yesterday.
According to local media outlet Iceland Review, the unexploded mine was dragged up in a trawler's fishing gear on Wednesday this week and is believed to be a German torpedo.
The trawler was evacuated after returning to the harbour in Sandgerði and the torpedo was dragged 1.5 km out to sea and detonated at a depth of ten metres.
