New South Wales National Parks and Wildfire Service firefighters dealing with the Bill's Crossing Fire at Crowdy Bay found time to give a helping hand to a young koala.
Firefighter Ben Dawson gave a rescued koala some water, against a backdrop of scorched vegetation.

After watering the little creature, the crew reported the situation to the incident control centre. Dawson and his colleagues then ferried the koala to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital.
The young marsupial seemed to be in good condition, with no signs of injury.
Koalas in Australia have been affected by wildfires sweeping through their natural habitat, with hundreds feared dead according to local conservationists.
