A group of British MPs protested the suspension of Parliament by holding up signs reading "silenced" and filling the House of Commons with Scottish and Welsh songs.

During a tense ceremony marking Prime Minister Boris Johnson's suspension, or prorogation, scuffles briefly broke out as parliament staff pushed aside lawmakers holding up their signs in front of House Speaker John Bercow.

Several opposition politician remained seating following the proceedings, taking turns to sing Scottish and Welsh songs, including Scots Wha Hae by Robert Burns, which includes the lines: "Lay the proud usurpers low! Tyrants fall in every foe! Liberty's in every blow!— Let us do or die!"
