As a warning of the dangers of texting while driving, a US police department has released video of a crash.

The dashcam footage showed the moment when a driver was distracted by a phone, crashing into a utility pole and flipping over on the road.

Police said the driver suffered minor injuries and was cited for texting-and-driving after the incident in Berlin, Massachusetts on 23 July.

On their local police department Facebook page, the force said the video was to "remind everyone about the serious outcomes that can result from texting and driving, being distracted by any other means, or impairment from drugs or alcohol".
