A story of enduring love stole the show at Waterford’s St Patrick’s Day Parade, with Des and Mona Manahan serving as grand marshals.
Their love story went viral after 84-year-old Des learned to apply his 83-year-old wife’s make-up when her eyesight started to fail.
Today, parade organisers surprised them at the reviewing stand with the song that played on their first date 67 years ago - Nat King Cole’s Too Young.

Well over 5,000 people attended the Waterford parade, which was themed ‘Colour, culture and community’.
Led by The Barrack Street Concert Band, diversity was showcased in the parade across a variety of platforms in the arts, sports and local business groups.
The Waterford Panto Society made spectacles of themselves with the crowds lapping up the music, the dance and the farce.
GAA clubs were out in force from across the city and county and the vibranc and energy of youth was captured in high end street theatre from the Waterford Spraoi company.
There was a guest appearance from renowned sculptor, John Hayes, aka Special Branch Carpentry.
The chainsaw artist holds the world record for carving the longest sculpture from a single piece of wood.
