A sneaky snake made it all the way from Australia to Scotland coiled inside a shoe in the suitcase of an unsuspecting woman who was returning from holidays.

The spotted python was found unharmed inside the shoe when the woman began unpacking at her home last Thursday.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Taylor Johnstone said: "When I arrived, the snake had been contained by the caller, so I safely removed the snake from the property. Upon examination, the snake was found to be a spotted python which is not venomous."

The snake is now in quarantine at the organisation's animal rescue and re-homing centre in Edinburgh.
