A bomb disposal unit has defused a 250kg bomb from World War II in Potsdam, Germany.

About 6,000 residents had to evacuate their homes in the inner city this morning after the US-made bomb was discovered.

According to authorities, 400 personnel were at the scene in the Speicherstadt district where an area with an 800-metre radius was cordoned off.
