Emergency services and the army have deployed crews in Austria to help relief efforts after extreme snowfall caused difficulties across large areas of the Alps.

Volunteer firefighters in the ski resort of Hohentauern worked to clear snow.

A number of tourists remain stuck in Hohentauern, which has been completely isolated because of road closures.

Elsewhere, the army has been dispatching helicopters to deliver supplies and conduct evacuations.

Austrian media report that over 2,000 people are currently stranded by the snow accumulation.

Weather services forecast that snow will keep falling in a number of regions until Friday.

At least 14 people have been killed in snow-related accidents, with the latest victim being a 16-year old boy who was hit by an avalanche in Tyrol on Wednesday.

Authorities in several regions of Austria have raised the avalanche warning level to the highest and are urging skiers not to venture off-piste.
