When to vote

Polling stations will be open around the country from 7am until 10pm on Friday, 25 May.

Details on where to vote are on your polling card.

To be eligible to vote, you must be on the electoral register. Check the register here.

Polling card

Many people will have received a polling card in the post in recent weeks.

If you are eligible to vote and did not receive a polling card, you can still vote. However, you must bring a valid form of personal identification with you.

Bring ID

Bring some form of ID. You may not be asked for proof of identity, but you will need to show it if you are asked.

This is the list of acceptable identification, according to the Referendum Commission:

- passport
- driving licence
- public services card
- employee identity card with a photograph
- student identity card with a photograph
- travel document with your name and photograph
- or a bank, savings or credit union book containing your address in the constituency

It is also acceptable to show a cheque book, a cheque card, a credit card, a birth certificate or a marriage certificate, as long as you also have another document which confirms your address in the constituency.

No canvassing

Canvassing within 50 metres of any entrance to a polling station is prohibited.

No form of canvassing is allowed in the polling station. This includes in the building which contains the polling station and the attached grounds.

No selfies

You are not allowed to take a photo of the ballot paper being marked or of a marked ballot paper.

So no photographs and no selfies, as these could compromise the secrecy of the ballot.

X marks the spot

Only make one mark on your ballot paper.

If anything else is written, it could be deemed to be a spoilt vote, which will be rejected during the count.

This is what the ballot paper will look like:

There is one proposal:

"Do you approve of the proposal to amend the Constitution contained in the undermentioned Bill?

Thirty-sixth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2018"

Your options are:

"If you approve, mark X in this square ... Yes"

"If you do not approve, mark X in this square ... No"
