A 40-year old man has appeared in court in connection with the seizure of an estimated €4.2 million worth of cannabis in Co Clare.
James Lawlor, of Killininny House, Firhouse in Dublin, was brought before Ennis District Court charged with two offences.
The 210kg of cannabis were seized on the N19 at Smithstown, on the outskirts of Shannon, yesterday.
Garda Eoin McCabe, of Ennis Garda Station, told the court that he arrested and charged Mr Lawlor at Shannon Garda Station this afternoon.
He is accused of possession of cannabis on the N19, for the purpose of selling or otherwise, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.
He is also charged with having cannabis, at the same location and on the same date, contrary to the same act.
Solicitor Shiofra Hassett told the court that there was no application for bail.
She said that Mr Lawlor is a suitable candidate for legal aid.
Garda Sergeant Frank O'Grady told the court that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are not yet available in the case.
Judge Adrian Harris remanded Mr Lawlor in custody to appear via video link from prison at Ennis District Court on 3 June.
