Man dies after car goes into water in Co Cork

A man in his 30s has died after his car went into the River Bride near the Conna Road in Co Cork.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident shortly before 10am this morning.

The sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The road remains closed for forensic examination with local diversions in place.

Conna Community Council posted a statement on social media in which they extended their condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the local community.

They said that they were "deeply saddened" to hear of the tragic passing of a local man following a car crash.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with his family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time."

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

They are interested in talking to road users who were travelling on the Conna Road between 10pm yesterday and 10am this morning.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have video footage, including dash-cam, to make it available to them.
