Man, 20s, in critical condition after serious assault in Cahir

A man in his 20s is in a critical condition following a serious assault in Cahir, Co Tipperary.

The incident happened on Abbey Street and Barrack Street at around 1.40am.

The man was treated at the scene and taken to Tipperary University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

The victim had been attending a 21st birthday party in Cahir last night, and an altercation between a number of young men occurred on the streets of the town afterwards.

It is understood he suffered serious injuries when he was kicked on the ground during the assault.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

They are interested in talking to anyone who was in the vicinity of Abbey Street and Barrack Street between 1.15am and 2am.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have video footage, including dash-cam, to make it available to them.
