Aer Lingus has announced that it is adding six new flights to its services next summer, from Dublin and Cork airports.

Among them, is a new transatlantic route from Dublin to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania beginning 25 May next year.

This route will operate four times a week and brings the total number of the airline's routes from Ireland to north America to 24.

Commenting on the announcement of the new route, Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis said: "The Pittsburgh region's connections to Ireland run deep - both in today's strong business market and ancestral ties - and this is a route that community leaders have been seeking.

"We are thrilled to have a partner in Aer Lingus that will serve Pittsburgh's growing market for non-stop service to Ireland and beyond, and we look forward to welcoming even more European travelers to Pittsburgh."

"This route builds on our strong partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers and further cements Aer Lingus' position as a leading transatlantic carrier," said Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer at Aer Lingus.

"Through its Dublin hub, Aer Lingus provides convenient connections that link Pittsburgh with over 30 destinations across Europe and the UK."

Five new European routes have also been announced by Aer Lingus.

From next summer, passengers will be able to fly from Dublin to Oslo, Norway; Montpellier in France and Asturias on Spain's Galician northern coast.

The airline announced two new flights to its services to and from Cork Airport.

From 6 May, the airline will fly to Nice in the south of France on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while, from 1 June, it will fly to Santiago de Compostela in Spain on Mondays and Thursdays.

The company has also announced that its winter-only service to Prague is to be extended to a year-round service with twice-weekly flights, on Mondays and Thursdays.
