Man released without charge in Cork murder investigation

A 55-year old man who was arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of a 38-year old community employment scheme worker in Cork has been released without charge.

Emergency services were called to a house in the Hollyville Estate in Hollyhill at around 4.30am yesterday.

Mark O'Connell, who was originally from Farranree in the city, was found seriously injured with stab wounds.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he later died.

A man who was arrested at the scene was questioned by detectives yesterday and again today, before being released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It is understood the two men were known to each other.
