A 28-year old man has been charged in connection with the seizure of €620,000 worth of cannabis at Shannon airport yesterday.

Sean Grehan, of Stradbrook Park, Blackrock, Dublin, appeared before Gort District Court this morning.

Garda Kevin Molloy told the court he arrested Mr Grehan at 6.10pm yesterday and at 6.20pm charged him with two drugs offences. He said Mr Grehan made no reply.

Solicitor Olivia Lynch told Judge Alec Gabbett that there would be no application for bail today but a bail application would be made on behalf of Mr Grehan on his next appearance in court.

Mr Grehan is charged with having in his possession, cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 at Shannon airport on 12 November.

Mr Grehan is also charged with having in his possession cannabis contrary to Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Ms Lynch asked for a short remand in custody to allow the application for bail to be made at Mr Grehan's next court appearance.

Judge Gabbett said that he could hear the bail application at Ennis District Court tomorrow.

Ms Lynch said that she has been in contact with Mr Grehan’s solicitor, Patricia Camilon at KOD Lyons in Dublin, who will make the bail application on Mr Grehan’s behalf at the next court.

She asked that she be granted legal aid for today's court appearance after Mr Grehan confirmed to the court that he does not work.

Judge Gabbett granted legal aid.

Judge Gabbett said that he would remand Mr Grehan in custody to Castlerea prison to appear at Ennis District Court for DPP directions and a bail application.

Judge Gabbett asked are there any issues relating to Mr Grehan that prison authorities should know about such as any medical attention required and Ms Lynch replied "no, he is all good".
